about

BPMoore’s newest single, Komorebi, opens with a delicate wash of swooping strings that set a suspenseful atmosphere of hope and anticipation from the start. Infused with pulsing electronic elements that grow stronger as the music unfolds, the piece builds to a beautiful and uplifting climax as violins and cello swell over full-bodied drums. Riff-like piano lines trickle over the top and punctuate the atmosphere with a vivacity that contributes to the overall sense of optimism and expectation. It is something of a wistful piece; it is equal parts inspiring and contemplative.

Komorebi is the last track from composer Ben Moore’s upcoming album of the same name. “Komorebi” is a Japanese word with no exact English equivalent, but it has been roughly translated to capture the sensation of ‘sunlight filtering through the leaves of the trees’—a beautiful descriptor, and one that harnesses the mood of both the single and the album as a whole.

The track is particularly special to Ben: in his own words,
“Komorebi was written for and is dedicated to my stepfather John, who passed away recently. I, and many others, still feel his positive influence filtering through the leaves of trees into our lives to this day.”
